THE PROBLEM
Very complex user interfaces require a lot of time and deep focus to perform a simple action
THE GOAL
Simplify insulin dosage calculation to keep blood sugar levels as close to the target as possible
Qualifications:
Provide meaningful features for insulin-dependent people with diabetes;
Intuitive navigation;
Use on the go.
HOW IT WORKS
Focus on meaningful features
The final app provides an easy way to track, review, and analyze glucose readings, carbs, and insulin consumption. The critical feature helps to identify the correct dose of insulin required for carbs consumed with food taking into account the current glucose level.
Get ready for food
When it’s time for food, Colibri helps to calculate proper insulin dosage based on the current glucose level and amount of carbs in the meal. A prediction graph indicates the expected glucose level in 2 hours based on a personal ratio. Personal ratios are discussed with a doctor and can be changed in the settings.
Each user can personalize the dosage for personal needs. It's easily modified in the settings. It allows us to choose ratios that will work better. We are all different.
Track trends
Colibri provides all the entered data for the current day on the diary screen. This information helps short-term actions, like taking a snack or making an additional insulin injection. It also helps to identify day-to-day patterns.
Progress analyzation
Statistics help has a bigger picture of diabetes compensation. It allows monitoring the picture of the last three months. There is a way to see the average month's figures and be ready to answer the doctor's questions accurately.
Development
Once the screens were prepared, I created the Xcode project. I imported the screens and created segues and buttons. I tried an interactive prototype and decided to make some design changes for faster development. When the interactive prototype was ready and fit all the parameters, I changed the screens to actual UI elements with full functionality. I used all Xcode features, including design, development, and debugging.
Six months after release, Colibri GC was downloaded over 400 times and had an average rating of 4.5 stars.
